DANIEL VELILLA

“As a Latino, we are oftentimes frustrated by what happens on our continent on a daily basis. Working at LALA allows me to put all my energy around causes I strongly believe in, relieve some of that frustration, and know that I’m actively helping build a better and stronger continent.”

“What initially attracted me to LALA was the mission of bottom-up development in Latin America and being able to work towards macro-level, systemic change while also being directly connected to the people impacted. What still attracts me today is the incredible professional learning experience, working with passionate, intelligent people, and being inspired by the brightest students you could imagine.”

"I came to LALA because of the people - I'm so inspired by my colleagues' passion for social impact and their commitment to their own development. LALA is like a family: I'll never forget going through the beginning of the COVID pandemic together, feeling so accompanied and cared for, even though we were physically distant and no one had the answers. Working for LALA requires me to be myself & speak my truth because the org's survival depends on each staff member's unique perspective. That, and the fact that our young leaders are watching! It's great to work somewhere where courageous vulnerability is expected."

“Three words that come to mind when I think about my experience working at LALA are — Learning, Growth, and Community. It is a privilege to work alongside brilliant individuals I can call my colleagues & friends who care for our students, love learning, have a commitment to excellence, and who want to make this world a better place.”

Our Founders’ Philosophy is that work at LALA is a partnership, not just a job.

Whether it's career progression, learning, your purpose, your ability to influence the org, your ability to shape your role, or networks you might build, we want to partner with you to maximize mutual growth.

JUNIOR MANAGER OF OPERATIONS - FINANCE & ACCOUNTING

LALA seeks an entrepreneurial and experienced leader to join us as Head of Development & Strategic Relations. The ideal candidate is—like us—on a personal mission to have a dramatic positive impact in Latin America and is ready to get in the trenches with us to build a development machine that will take LALA from a young innovative leadership development institution to a continental force for good. If you are on a path to starting or running a scalable social enterprise, this role can be the perfect opportunity for you!

ROLE & ITS MISSION

Latin America has struggled to achieve sustainable social and economic development for decades. The many issues that afflict the region come from—and in turn reinforce—a pressing shortage of ethical, competent, innovative leaders in the public, private and social sectors. LALA exists to transform this reality. To do so, we seek to find and develop tens of thousands of entrepreneurial, principled, impact-focused leaders from all backgrounds, and to build a continental community of these leaders. These leaders will collaborate across borders, industries, socioeconomic levels, and the public, private and social sectors, to solve Latin America’s most pressing problems.

In four years, LALA has reached 1000 young leaders from 16 countries, 70% of whom come from underrepresented backgrounds, and 50% of whom have launched social impact projects reaching 50,000 people. LALA’s holistic approach to leadership development has led to an ecosystem of programs and initiatives designed around reducing the barriers that young Latin American leaders face in their pursuit of social change. Please see this presentation to view a simplified model of our Holistic Leadership Development Ecosystem.
